Business Description

Conway Main Street USA (now known as Conway Downtown Alive) was formed in Conway in 1986 to revitalize the historic downtown area of the city. After a year of organizing and assessing the district, the committee set out to recruit new businesses to fill the vacant storefronts and create uplifting streetscapes. The first business targeted was a men's clothing store. In early 1988, Main Street committee member Frank Thompson and manager Elizabeth Stevens contacted Russell Fowler about the possiblity of opening a store in the downtown. After surveys, business plans, storefront renovations and stocking the store, The Haberdashery opened on the corner of Third Avenue and Laurel Street in the fall of 1988. After fifteen years, The Haberdashery relocated around the corner to the newly constructed Black Water Market on the corner of Laurel Street and Fourth Avenue. In 2013, the business celebrates 25 years as the premier men's store in the area.
